Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Table
Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot including angels, demons, and sinister influences increasing in power within the city.
Warning: Revealing details for the third episode of this adventure are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of heroes who will separate from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.
That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are rare.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might seem out of place, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a intense opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—used the enemy for his own means, entering the secret base, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.
The traitor then cleared his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each member has a individual motive to exit Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, seeks retribution.
- The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a hostile location.
- The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as important members in the powerful family could assist the team reach locations they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- Thimble and The character are known criminals.
- The strong figure and Wicander defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This leaves them no alternative but to head to Timmony in search of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Explorers and Planners groups.
Fans can expect finding out which adventurers will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
